Aeration – Raleigh Lawn Care and Landscaping

by / Sunday, 07 September 2014 / Published in News Updates

Aeration in the fall is one of the most important services you can have done for your lawn. Tall Fescue lawns and other cool season lawns need to be renovated this time of year, between September and October, in order to relieve tough soil compaction with Raleigh’s clayey soils. Core aeration not only relieves soil compaction but it also allows for better seed to soil contact while overseeding  and applying starter fertilizer to the lawn in conjunction with aeration. The removed cores allow air, water, and nutrients to better infiltrate the soil, thus growing a healthier root system that keeps the turf plant alive and healthy year-round. While the effects of  core aeration can not be directly seen, the service has a lasting impact on the grass and its ability to survive drought, weed infiltrations, disease resistance, and traffic across the lawn. Aeration is a yearly routine for anyone in the Triangle with a cool season turf ( Tall Fescue, Bluegrass, ryegrass, etc.).
